We chose to build very complex tooling that allows us to build the Marlow Explorer with a minimum number of pieces. Our yacht is built primarily from three major molds rather than the standard 40-50 molds most yacht companies use. We feel with fewer seams our yachts will remain tight and leak free for decades to come.
Marlow Yachts is a world leader in the exciting new technology of resin infusion. We developed a process called RIVAT © (Resin Infused Vacuum Assisted Transfer). This technology literally infuses each fiber with precisely the right amount of resin while in the mold, with no room for human error in resin content. This is very important in that one drop of resin over the required amount to wet the fibers reduces the laminate strength. This exclusive closed molding process employed with RIVAT© eliminates ozone depleting chemicals dispersion from the process. Our RIVAT© process was the highest expression of this state of the art methodology until we developed our Full Stack Infusion© method which is being employed for the majority of the molding. This exciting new procedure takes the RIVAT© process to a new level. Kevlar was chosen as a hull fabric because it produces a hull that is more durable than common, old, low technology fabrics used by many manufacturers. The composite structure of Kevlar, vinylester and epoxy resins, closed cell SAN-based foam and engineered fabrics is resin-infused while vacuum bagged to produce state of the art safety without compromising hydrodynamics or speed with excess weight. It also produces a hull that can withstand the punishment of rough seas and impact with floating objects. Make no mistake about it, no solid laminate can match the strength and performance characteristics of a Full Stack Infusion© cored structure. In our view, verified by extensive research including destructive testing, solid laminates are the dinosaurs of the reinforced plastics industry except in very small specialized applications. If you asked an around the world race crew to go on board a solid laminate yacht it is doubtful you could find a single participant. These men and women risk their lives in all conditions. They do not go to port when the weather turns sour. Racing among icebergs in 40 foot seas, nothing but the best will do. We have superb craftsmen who create one of kind pieces of furniture and specialized detailing for all of our yachts. Our signature overhead handrail is a complex and beautiful work of art in teak. The door frames and molding reflect the quality and level of fit and finish found on very few yachts worldwide. It is found on every one of the ME's. The absence of interior bulkheads, due to the monocoque construction materials and technique, creates a spaciousness in these yachts that allow you to indulge in nearly every requirement for space, storage and cabin configuration that you may have. The interior is crafted from a single teak log, hand-picked in Thailand and shipped to the factory, to ensure that the grain, color and grade are consistent throughout the boat. Practical and ingenious creation of storage spaces is evident in all areas of the yacht. The saloon is entered from the large, protected aft deck where volume of the room makes one feel he or she is on a much larger yacht. Two steps up from the saloon, the pilothouse features the gourmet galley, the dining settee and a very spacious helm area. The natural marbles and granites used in the galley enhance the luxurious feeling of the boat while offering a carefree work surface. The Sub-Zero refrigerator and freezer drawers and Fisher-Paykel dishwasher drawers, options every owner so far have selected, are finished as cabinetry and disappear as appliances yet offer the service and prestige of the top of the line equipment. |
